DNA Day Essay Contest
This contest is open to students in grades 9-12 worldwide and asks students to examine, question, and reflect on important concepts in genetics. Essays are expected to be well-reasoned arguments that indicate a deep understanding of scientific concepts related to the essay question. -
When do you think using AI would be helpful in understanding your genetic test results?

Project Yellow Light
Your Mission: Create a video ad, a radio spot, or a design for a billboard ad to encourage safe driving. Your Audience: Young drivers who are new to the road. Your Topic/Brief: Stop distracted driving, specifically phone use while driving. In a world where we regularly stay connected through technology, drivers don’t always realize when they shift into distracted driving. We need to remind them that distracted driving is dangerous. A lot of distracted driving prevention creative uses scare tactics or preachy messaging that addresses the consequences of messaging while driving (crashes or death), but we want you to address what motivates people to think they can safely use their phones while driving. Please note that you should not include logos or branding – or mention logos or branding – in your video, billboard design, or radio spot. Each contest is open to high school juniors and seniors. You can apply in teams (but no more than 4 people per team). If your team wins, the prize will be evenly distributed among the members. Videos should be either exactly 10 seconds or 25 seconds in length. If your video is selected as a winner, it will be turned into a PSA by the Ad Council and we will add a five second end frame to round it out to 15 or 30 seconds. The radio spot should be exactly 20 seconds. The Ad Council will add a 10 second branding voice-over at the end of the spot to round it out to 30 seconds. Keep all your unused video footage taken during the making of your film and/or the recording of your radio spot. You are welcome to enter all contests as long as the entry follows the requirements.

American Foreign Service Association National High School Essay Contest
In 2025, we mark the 50th anniversary of the end of the Vietnam War, a conflict that left a profound impact on the United States and the world. As we reflect on this milestone, it is crucial to revisit the role of the U.S. Foreign Service during that era, which was instrumental in shaping the course of events and continues to influence U.S. diplomacy today. Drawing in part from The Foreign Service Journal’s 40th anniversary coverage of the end of the Vietnam war, critically assess what you believe to be the most significant effects of the Foreign Service’s work during the Vietnam War on contemporary U.S. diplomacy. Consider the following as you craft your essay:
-
Historical Context: Reflect on the role of the Foreign Service before, during, and after the Vietnam War
-
Long-Term Impacts: How did these experiences influence the development of U.S. diplomatic strategies, the approach to conflict resolution, or the handling of humanitarian crises in subsequent years?
-
Contemporary Relevance: Draw possible connections between the lessons learned by the Foreign Service in Vietnam and current U.S. diplomatic practices. How have these lessons shaped the way modern diplomates engage with the world today

Create Real Impact Contest
Showcase your positive solutions and strategies to stop the #1 killer of young people–car crashes caused by reckless and distracted driving. There are two ways to enter, either as 1) an Individual Student, between ages 14-22, or 2) as a high school group of students representing their school and supervised by a school representative. A student participating with a teacher/advisor in the Create Real Impact High School Campaign Contest, is also eligible to enter their Video or Graphic Design as an Individual Student Entrant during the same contest period. All entrants will create an original work showcasing either 1) a positive solution or strategy to end reckless and distracted driving, or 2) a positive solution or strategy to stay safe as a shared roadway user (pedestrian, bicyclist, scooter rider, etc.). Distracted driving is anything that takes: your eyes off the road, your hands off the wheel, your mind off your driving, keeps your ears from being alert to your surroundings. We encourage participants to go beyond addressing phone use and consider behind-the-wheel distractions include texting and talking on the phone but also applying make-up, turning to talk to your friends, adjusting the GPS or radio/shuffling the playlist, eating, drinking (non-alcoholic), or anything else that takes your attention away from the task of driving. Please do not forget distracted driving does not just affect those inside the car, it can affect pedestrians, bicyclists, people riding scooters, and other roadway users. Entries should not use the word “accident”. Alternative terms are crash, collision, or wreck. The majority of car crashes are preventable based on the choices being made inside of a car by a driver or a passenger. Remember, shared roadway users should also stay alert and have the power to prevent crashes. It is acceptable to use the word “accident” to educate the audience about why that term should NOT be used.
